"It has been three months now since we received our bedroom furniture from Hitch Exclusives. And, in summary, the word that best describes the furniture and the experience with Hitch is, "WOW."

We recently purchased an unfinished mountain home north of Park City, Utah, and wanted a unique bed for our master bedroom. We visited all of the local furniture stores didn't find anything we loved. Finally, we noticed a Hitch Exclusives advertisement in the magazine, Mountain Living. A few days after a call to Hitch, we got a brochure showing many of their beautiful offerings. We decided that a Legacy II bed would make the impact we were looking for.

We began working with Michele at Hitch. She helped us with the ordering, the delivery time, and helped us understand some of the nuances that, since the bed was being made just for us, could be incorporated for us. For example, since the wood is reclaimed, some of the wood is darker, some is more weathered, some have more prominent markings, etc. She did a great job of helping us understand how this whole process would work - and that really put our minds at ease.

The bed was shipped and arrived before the date to which Michele had committed. It was packed in a crate that really did a good job of protecting the contents (a bed and two night stands). We looked all over for problems - and found only a slight indentation on the top of a headboard post. By far, the most painful part of the process was getting the bed sections up our stairs. It took three men to get the headboard up the stairs and placed where it needed to be. We were AMAZED at the weight and mass of the each piece. Even the pieces going under the bed were made with similar wood and QUALITY as the show pieces. In our opinion, the bed looked even more beautiful than what's shown in the brochure. Also, the AROMA of the velvit oil used on the wood was a real delight.

Installation was surprisingly easy. The workman that had helped me bring the headboard up the stairs had gone and I was left alone - trying to decide whether I would try to put the bed together myself. I read the installation instructions, recommending two people, and decided (just like a typical male), that I could do it myself. Both the headboard and the footboard could just stand in place without any support. I made the measurements suggested in the instructions, placed the head and foot boards accordingly, braced both with the tables I had just purchased and began sliding the side boards into place. SIMPLE. Next, I built the mattress support section. SIMPLE. And finally, I tightened up the joinery with the dowels that were included in the maintenance kit. Also, SIMPLE. Then I noticed that with the heavy wood and the handcrafted dovetail joinery, the bed felt as SOLID AS A ROCK. It still feels that solid today.

By the way, the markings, weathering, and the variations in the wood color really give the bed a unique and beautiful feel. We never saw anything like it before. We really like the color variations which pull in varying colors - from the carpet to the stone fireplace to the out of doors. My favorite features, though, are the nail holes and the wood's imperfections which add to the CHARACTER of the piece. The wrought-iron element in the headboard is PERFECTLY EXECUTED.

The bed is beautiful, no, STUNNING. It's a great conversation piece. It "makes" the room - which, after all, is JUST WHAT WE WANTED.

In a day when promises are almost never kept and reality is often "air brushed" away, Hitch kept every promise and built for us a WORK OF ART that we will cherish for many, many years.

Additionally, we just had them do a custom mule chest for the same bed room that represented a significant modification from their 5-drawer chest. Not only did they convert their plans from a 5-drawer to a 10-drawer, but they had to fit a niche built for a dresser. We love the wood. We love the story about the wood. To me, the imperfections of the wood add an incredible character. It's an interesting study to see the wood with its imperfections including holes, color variations, etc., and then see the way Hitch has perfectly put it together for an exact fit. The bed is as solid as a rock. The Joinery is so interesting and unique - and effective.

The best way to describe their quality is to say that I often am thinking about other improvements to the home where I might be able to include Hitch products.
